Modesetting must be enabled to use nvidia-drm.ko for graphics. This can be done
by setting the modeset sysctl, the equivalent of the modeset kernel parameter
on Linux.

hw.nvidiadrm.modeset=1

This must be set before loading nvidia-drm.ko, most easily done by placing the
above in /boot/loader.conf.

Additional note:
Possibly vtys before invoking whichever of X11 or Wayland shifts
screen downward with about half character-based line, causing
command prompt at the bottom become hard to read.

Once X11 (tested only for xorg) or Wayland starts, it would be
fixed (on exitting X11 / Wayland or switching to vty from X11/
Wayland) until next restart of the computer.

This doesn't happen for everyone (among maintainance team of
NVIDIA GPU driver ports, only I myself am bitten).
So upgrading as-is.

The workaround is to switch to old-school configuration
without loading nvidia-drm.ko.
Forcibly flipping hw.nvidiadrm.modeset to 0 in /boot/loader.conf
and restart would also help.
But these workarounds may mean Wayland to become unusable.

And refreshing vty with Ctrl-L (unless mapped to non-default
functionalities) lets command line prompt at the top, thus,
this is not fatal anyway.

graphics/nvidia-drm-*-kmod: Add drm 6.12

Add new ports

graphics/nvidia-drm-612-kmod,
graphics/nvidia-drm-612-kmod-580 and
graphics/nvidia-drm-612-kmod-devel

and add conflicts to

graphics/nvidia-drm-{515|61|66|latest}-kmod{-580|-devel}

following the addition of graphics/drm-612-kmod.

While here, bump

graphics/nvidia-drm-latest-kmod,
graphics/nvidia-drm-latest-kmod-580 and
graphics/nvidia-drm-latest-kmod-devel

following the bump of graphics/drm-latest-kmod from 6.9 to 6.12.

Bump PORTREVISION of other graphics/nvidia-drm-*-kmod*
as of changes in CONFLICTS.

Match DRM driver version selection with graphics/drm-kmod.
Now 6.12 is default for OSVERSION >= 1500509 (stable/15, upcoming 15.1
and main) when installed using graphics/nvidia-drm-kmod{-580|-devel}
ports / pkgs.

Also bump -devel variant to match with master ports, as Production
Branch [PB] of drivers have now higher version than New Feature
Branch [NFB] of drivers.

As this update drops a bunch of old (pre-Turing generation of
architectures) GPUs as done in -devel variants updated 20260103,
add -580 variant of legacy branch of driver.

Currently, this is exactly the same version before this update.

! Important note !

As already notified by HEADSUP at freebsd-ports ML [1],
this version drops support for a bunch of old GPUs
prior to Turing Generation of the architecture.

Anyone using dropped GPUs need to switch to master ports,
currently at 580.119.02.

Note that once 590 series or later drivers become Production
Branch of drivers, new legacy branch -580 would be created.

See "Appendix A. Supported NVIDIA GPU Products" in README [2]
whether or not your GPU is still supported or not before
upgrading.

While here, update underlying EGL components as below:
graphics/externalplatform: 1.2.1
graphics/egl-wayland : 1.1.20

And added one more EGL component that Linux version already has:
graphics/egl-x11

One more EGL component to come in the future if it is tagged
with non-RC number on hopefully next driver ports upgrade.

x11/nvidia-driver: Split kmod into x11/nvidia-kmod

Split out kmod part of x11/nvidia-driver into x11/nvidia-kmod,
including slave ports, to allow FreeBSD-kmods repo builders building
nvidia-related kmod ports.

In this update,

* split out *.ko from x11/nvidia-driver[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel]
  into corresponding x11/nvidia-kmod[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel],

* switch dependency of graphics/nvidia-drm-*-kmod upon
  x11/nvidia-driver[-devel] to newly introduced
  x11/nvidia-kmod[-devel],

* make x11/nvidia-driver[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel] depend upon
  newly introduced x11/nvidia-kmod[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel],

* bump consumers directly depending upon x11/nvidia-driver*
  as of dependency switches,

* and hook x11/nvidia-kmod[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel] to build.

Note that upgrading x11/nvidia-driver* from monolithic version
requires deinstallation of x11/nvidia-driver* before starting,
as both previous version of x11/nvidia-driver* and newly introduced
x11/nvidia-kmod* installs *.ko into same place.

x11/nvidia-driver-devel, x11/linux-nvidia-libs-devel, graphics/nvidia-drm[,510,515,61,66]-kmod-devel: Add new ports

Add *-devel versions of nvidia drivers

These ports provides supports for New Feature Branch (NFB) of upstream
nvidia drivers like existing legacy branches of ports.

In some cases, supports for cutting edge GPUs are provided via
NFB of driver packages or Beta branch of drivers.

As Beta Branch of drivers cannot be recommended widely, we decided to
add support for NFB as *-devel version.

This new *-devel versions tracks the latest non-Beta versions
regardless it's NFB or Production Branch of drivers.
This is because, in some cases, major version of Production Branch
of drivers are bumped to larger than the one for corresponding
NFB.

So depending on the timing, *-devel 100% matches non-devel
master ports except for its package name.

Our upgrading policies are:

 1. Start investigating whether some additional works are needed to
build/install/run or not when new Beta is found to be released
 upstream.

 2. If any additional works were needed and done, upgrade master ports
below without updating version nor PORTREVISION of master ports below.

    x11/nvidia-driver x11/linux-nvidia-libs graphics/nvidia-drm-*-kmod

and as needed, graphics/nvidia-drm-kmod/Makefile.common would be
 updated, too.

 3. Once findng new NFB is released upstream, bump versions of *-devel.
Step 2 would "usually" ease this work unless Beta is skipped or
 last-minutes breaking changes are introduced.

 4. Once finding new Production Branch is released upstream, bump
 versions of master ports.

 5. Once finding any of Legacy Branch of driver is released upstream,
upgrade corresponding legacy ports. This could need some additional
work, because updated version could incorporate patches from our ports.

Note that graphics/nvidia-drm-*-kmod does NOT support any of
exisiting legacy versions, as they don't yet have codes to
support these ports.
