KDE: update KDE Plasma Desktop to 6.1 Your Future Desktop is Ready Plasma 6.1 brings improvements and powerful new features to every part of your desktop Tuesday, 18 June 2024 Plasma 6 hits its stride with version 6.1. While Plasma 6.0 was all about getting the migration to the underlying Qt 6 frameworks correct (and what a massive job that was), 6.1 is where developers start implementing the features that will take your desktop to a new level. In this release, you will find features that go far beyond subtle changes to themes and tweaks to animations (although there is plenty of those too), as you delve into interacting with desktops on remote machines, become more productive with usability and accessibility enhancements galore, and discover customizations that will even affect the hardware of your computer. These features and more are being built directly into Plasma's Wayland version natively, avoiding the need for third party software and hacky extensions required by similar solutions implemented in X. Things will only get more interesting from here. But meanwhile enjoy what will land on your desktop with your next update. Announcement: https://kde.org/announcements/plasma/6/6.1.0/acd77861e6

KDE: Update KDE Plasma 6 to 6.0.0 This updates KDE Plasma 6 to the first stable release. Update plan for the rest of KDE: * The KDE Applications will be updated to 24.02 at the beginning of the next quarter in the tree. They will be mostly Qt6 based. To test them beforehand, one can use the overlay [1]. * The idea is to wait out the first patch-release for the applications, which should hopefully get rid of most of the new bugs. * The Qt5 bases KDE Frameworks 5 and Plasma 5 ports should remain in the tree for the next quarter -- Frameworks as long as it is required by other ports. The Plasma 5 ports will likely be removed at some point in the future however -- as there is no apparent benefit in having multiple Plasma versions at the moment. * The Qt6 based KDE applications will replace the current Qt5 based ports. As the maintenance overhead for duplicate is not manageable. * For co-instability the KDE Frameworks 5 ports will be adapted to depend on the KDE Frameworks 6 ports as described in [2]. * This plan is not fixed in stone, but will be adapted when it seems reasonable to do so. KDE: Update KDE Plasma 6 to 5.92.0 KDE's 6th Megarelease - Release Candidate 1 Wednesday, 10 January 2024 Plasma 6, Frameworks and Gear draw closer Every few years we port the key components of our software to a new version of Qt, taking the opportunity to remove cruft and leverage the updated features the most recent version of Qt has to offer us. KDE's megarelease is less than 50 days away. At the end of February 2024 we will publish Plasma 6, Frameworks 6, and a whole new set of applications in a special edition of KDE Gear all in one go. If you have been following the updates here, here and here, you will know we are making our way through the testing phase and gradually reaching stability. KDE is making available today the first Release Candidate version of all the software we will include in the megarelease. As with the Alpha and Beta versions, this is a preview intended for developers and testers. The software provided is nearing stability, but is still not 100% safe to use in a production environment. We still recommend you continue using stable versions of Plasma, Frameworks and apps for your everyday work. But if you do use this, watch out for bugs and report them promptly, so we can solve them. Read on to find out more about KDE's 6th Megarelease, what it covers, and how you can help make the new versions of Plasma, KDE's apps and Frameworks a success now. To get a full Qt6 based desktop, the overlay below can be used (once it is updated to RC1) Announcement: https://kde.org/announcements/megarelease/6/rc1/ Overlay: https://github.com/tcberner/kde6-overlay/ff6c4ff200

To ensure all parts of KDE's software stack are working together, we are releasing all our major bundles at the same time. Today sees the continuation of that journey with the Beta releases of Plasma 6, KDE Frameworks 6 and the KDE Gear bundle of apps. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | This is a very early preview intended for developers and testers only. | | We hope it will be picked up by rolling unstable distros, but it is far | | from being ready for day-to-day use yet. | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Announcement: https://kde.org/announcements/megarelease/6/beta1/ Obtained from: https://github.com/tcberner/kde6-overlay/ Further port changes: * graphics/libkexiv2-devel has been addeda5d64462f2
