python.mk: rename PYTHON_EXT_SUFFIX to PYTHON_TAG, document, etc EXT_SUFFIX, according to PEP 3149, refers to the full tag and extension for compiled extension module objects, eg .cpython-311.so, .cpython-313t.so, etc. We do not use the correct semantic meaning, and this usage becomes ambiguous and confusing when tags do not match between bytecode and compiled extension module objects. Rename our PYTHON_EXT_SUFFIX to PYTHON_TAG to align with PEP 3147's specification of a magic tag, which consists of implementation name and shorthand version only. This is meant for bytecode and other files containing this tag in their filename that do not depend on a specific Python ABI for the same version. Chase all existing consumers. Introduce PYTHON_SOABI to align with PEP 3149's specification of a tag, which consists of implementation name, shorthand version and any ABI flags present (this and PYTHON_TAG are identical without ABI flags). This is meant for compiled extension module objects and other files that depend on a specific Python ABI for the same version. Add documentation for these variables that our PYTHON_EXT_SUFFIX never had. PR: 274671 Event: Kitchener-Waterloo Hackathon 2025064f0eba1efd

Revert "*/py-{gdbm,sqlite3,tkinter}: switch from distutils to setuptools"
This reverts commit 7446740638e7d833fde0962e71ef440a6af3c749.
The change is not valid as setuptools have deprecated setup.py,
while distutils will be supported in existing point releases.
Python 3.12 support will require different solution.
PR: 26828362723bbe60*/py-{gdbm,sqlite3,tkinter}: switch from distutils to setuptools
For python modules which come from python itself, switch from
distutils (no longer present in python 3.12) to setuptools, fixing
these mudules for python 3.12.

Convert Python ports to FLAVORS.
Ports using USE_PYTHON=distutils are now flavored. They will
automatically get flavors (py27, py34, py35, py36) depending on what
versions they support.
There is also a USE_PYTHON=flavors for ports that do not use distutils
but need FLAVORS to be set. A USE_PYTHON=noflavors can be set if
using distutils but flavors are not wanted.
A new USE_PYTHON=optsuffix that will add PYTHON_PKGNAMESUFFIX has been
added to cope with Python ports that did not have the Python
PKGNAMEPREFIX but are flavored.
USES=python now also exports a PY_FLAVOR variable that contains the
current python flavor. It can be used in dependency lines when the
port itself is not python flavored. For example, deskutils/calibre.
By default, all the flavors are generated. To only generate flavors
for the versions in PYTHON2_DEFAULT and PYTHON3_DEFAULT, define
BUILD_DEFAULT_PYTHON_FLAVORS in your make.conf.
In all the ports with Python dependencies, the *_DEPENDS entries MUST
end with the flavor so that the framework knows which to build/use.
This is done by appending '@${PY_FLAVOR}' after the origin (or
@${FLAVOR} if in a Python module with Python flavors, as the content
will be the same). For example:
RUN_DEPENDS= ${PYTHON_PKGNAMEPREFIX}six>0:devel/py-six@${PY_FLAVOR}

MASTER_SITES cleanup.
- Replace ${MASTER_SITE_FOO} with FOO.
- Merge MASTER_SITE_SUBDIR into MASTER_SITES when possible. (This means 99.9%
of the time.)
- Remove occurrences of MASTER_SITE_LOCAL when no subdirectory was present and
no hint of what it should be was present.
- Fix some logic.
- And generally, make things more simple and easy to understand.
While there, add magic values to the FESTIVAL, GENTOO, GIMP, GNUPG, QT and
SAMBA macros.
Also, replace some EXTRACT_SUFX occurences with USES=tar:*.

Python modules directly using the upstream Python package (such as py-tkinter or py-sqlite3) were updated to avoid using the now unnecessary and remmoved knobs from "bsd.python.mk". Use setuptools for all Python ports. Setuptools is the preferred method to manage Python distributions after many changes to the packaging ecosystem over the past couple of years. Only ports using USE_PYDISTUTILS= yes are affected by this commit, ports using USE_PYDISTUTILS= easy_install remains the same however this usage is now deprecated and should be converted to USE_PYDISTUTILS= yes. Some Python distributions do not work with setuptools out of the box because they extend the install command from distutils and not setuptools, and so they need to be patched accordingly. pip (which leverages setuptools) works around the issue by using eggs, however we want to get rid of those as well, as support for "flat" installation is unavailable or has other issues associated with it. This work allows us to unify how python packages are built, ensure that Python distributions are installed consistently, reduces complexity for Python port maintainers and paves the way for simplifying the Python ports framework in the future.
