To use these drivers, make sure that you have loaded the NVidia kernel module, by running # kldload nvidia-modeset on the command line, or by putting ``nvidia-modeset'' on the ``kld_list'' variable in /etc/rc.conf, either manually or by running # sysrc kld_list+=nvidia-modeset If you build this port with FreeBSD AGP GART driver, make sure you have agp.ko kernel module installed and loaded, since nvidia.ko will depend on it, or have your kernel compiled with "device agp". Otherwise, the NVidia kernel module will not load. Also, please set correct value for ``Option "NvAGP"'' in ``Device'' section of your X11 configuration file. When building with Linux compatibility support, make sure that linux.ko module is available as well (or have it compiled in kernel). It can be loaded via /boot/loader.conf, or later in the boot process if you add linux_enable="YES" to your /etc/rc.conf. If X.org cannot start and reports (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to obtain a shared memory identifier. in /var/log/Xorg.0.log while actually you have ``options SYSVSHM'' enabled in kernel, the sysctl ``kern.ipc.shmall'' should be increased. Because in certain 570 versions GSP firmware is known to cause issues with suspend/resume, thus, disabled by default for now. On the other hand, some GPUs are known NOT to work without GSP firmware support. To enable GSP firmware add hw.nvidia.registry.EnableGpuFirmware=1 to your loader.conf. https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/FreeBSD-x86_64/560.31.02/README/gsp.html See /usr/local/share/doc/nvidia-kmod/README for more information.

Once X11 (tested only for xorg) or Wayland starts, it would be fixed (on exitting X11 / Wayland or switching to vty from X11/ Wayland) until next restart of the computer. This doesn't happen for everyone (among maintainance team of NVIDIA GPU driver ports, only I myself am bitten). So upgrading as-is. The workaround is to switch to old-school configuration without loading nvidia-drm.ko. Forcibly flipping hw.nvidiadrm.modeset to 0 in /boot/loader.conf and restart would also help. But these workarounds may mean Wayland to become unusable. And refreshing vty with Ctrl-L (unless mapped to non-default functionalities) lets command line prompt at the top, thus, this is not fatal anyway. As this update drops a bunch of old (pre-Turing generation of architectures) GPUs as done in -devel variants updated 20260103, add -580 variant of legacy branch of driver. Currently, this is exactly the same version before this update. (580.142) PR: 294038 Differential Revision: https://reviews.freebsd.org/D56077b35026e786
x11/nvidia-kmod{-devel}: Export required symbols
When kernel linker disables local symbol resolution, kernel modules
that require local symbols in other kernel modules, which are not
explicitly exported, stops to be loaded.
This behavior was turned on by default on main branch of src
at commit base 9562994a7aacee2baae6ddee1a7b558b48ae39ef.
Export local symbols in nvidia.ko for nvidia-modeset.ko and
in nvidia-modeset.ko for nvidia-drm.ko.

Important note ! As already notified by HEADSUP at freebsd-ports ML [1], this version drops support for a bunch of old GPUs prior to Turing Generation of the architecture. Anyone using dropped GPUs need to switch to master ports, currently at 580.119.02. Note that once 590 series or later drivers become Production Branch of drivers, new legacy branch -580 would be created. See "Appendix A. Supported NVIDIA GPU Products" in README [2] whether or not your GPU is still supported or not before upgrading. While here, update underlying EGL components as below: graphics/externalplatform: 1.2.1 graphics/egl-wayland : 1.1.20 And added one more EGL component that Linux version already has: graphics/egl-x11 One more EGL component to come in the future if it is tagged with non-RC number on hopefully next driver ports upgrade. x11/nvidia-driver: Split kmod into x11/nvidia-kmod Split out kmod part of x11/nvidia-driver into x11/nvidia-kmod, including slave ports, to allow FreeBSD-kmods repo builders building nvidia-related kmod ports. In this update, * split out *.ko from x11/nvidia-driver[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel] into corresponding x11/nvidia-kmod[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel], * switch dependency of graphics/nvidia-drm-*-kmod upon x11/nvidia-driver[-devel] to newly introduced x11/nvidia-kmod[-devel], * make x11/nvidia-driver[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel] depend upon newly introduced x11/nvidia-kmod[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel], * bump consumers directly depending upon x11/nvidia-driver* as of dependency switches, * and hook x11/nvidia-kmod[-304|-340|-390|470|-devel] to build. Note that upgrading x11/nvidia-driver* from monolithic version requires deinstallation of x11/nvidia-driver* before starting, as both previous version of x11/nvidia-driver* and newly introduced x11/nvidia-kmod* installs *.ko into same place.
